Join us for one of Finland's most unique summer events, where geology, craftsmanship and creativity come together in the historic surroundings of the Old Mine in Outokumpu.

The Outokumpu Gem, Mineral, Jewellery & Crafts Fair welcomes collectors, lapidaries, jewellery artists, craftspeople, exhibitors and visitors from across Finland and abroad. Whether you are a professional trader, a passionate hobbyist or simply curious about the fascinating world of minerals and gemstones, you will find inspiration, new discoveries and a warm atmosphere.

The fair takes place in Kiisuhalli, a spacious venue located in the heart of Outokumpu's famous mining area. The industrial heritage setting creates a memorable backdrop for an event celebrating both the beauty of nature and the skill of handmade craftsmanship.

Explore the Old Mine

Your visit doesn't have to end at the fair. The event is held at the historic Old Mine area, where visitors can also explore fascinating mining attractions, exhibitions and underground history. Combined tickets for the fair and the Old Mine attractions are available, making it easy to enjoy a full day of experiences.

12:10 – From the Earth to a Finished Piece of Jewellery
Speaker: Tuomi Vihava – jewellery-making student and gemstone entrepreneur.

Raised in Outokumpu, Tuomi Vihava has been visiting the Outokumpu Gem Fair since childhood. Now based in South Africa, she and her spouse run Vizier – Jewellery and African Gemstones. In his presentation, Tuomi will guide the audience through the complete journey of a gemstone: from the mineral wealth of Southern Africa and precision gem cutting to the creation of a finished piece of jewellery built around a carefully selected gemstone.

13:00 – Clay – A Mineral with Remarkable Potential
Speaker: Annika Kontkanen – entrepreneur, forestry engineer, Master of Natural Resources and rural development specialist.

Clay is one of nature's most versatile and sustainable materials. Annika Kontkanen introduces the fascinating world of clay and traditional clay plastering, explaining its properties, practical uses and growing popularity in modern homes.

12:10 – Gemstones and the Mining Industry of Chile
Speaker: Arto Hakola – mining engineer and long-time enthusiastic volunteer at the Outokumpu Mining Museum.

Having worked as Technical Director in Chile between 1982 and 1985, Arto Hakola will share his experiences of Chile's mining industry and introduce some of the country's fascinating gemstones. As one of the leading experts on Outokumpu's mining history, he is also sure to enrich the presentation with stories from Finland's own mining heritage.

13:00 – Soapstone – Properties and Its Use in Sculpture
Speaker: Timo Nevalainen – sculptor and chainsaw carving artist.

Award-winning sculptor Timo Nevalainen from Outokumpu creates impressive works in both stone and wood. In his presentation, he will discuss the unique properties of Finnish soapstone, the renowned Juuka Stone Carving Festival and his own artistic process as a professional sculptor.
